Reality

The running apparel and footwear industry has contributed significantly to the right royal climate mess we’re in.

Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand, you’ve probably heard that the fashion industry is one of the most prevalent polluters on our planet and our running and sports industry contributes to this.

Estimates of fashion’s greenhouse gas emissions range from 4% - 10% of the global total.

Unless urgent intervention takes place across all industries, across the globe as a collective community, we will not hit the global goals to limit global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

How do we do that? No small task.

We do it together. It’s our collective responsibility.

We all need to take action and make changes to our lives to limit the climate crisis.

We want to serve and be part of a running community that cares, we can’t do this alone. None of us can.

Collectively, as a community we can make a positive difference.

We can make better purchasing decisions.

We can give back to help ensure there are fair wages, ethical supply chains and investment in more sustainable technologies so the products we purchase are increasingly more sustainable.

Our Plan

We are investing to create sustainable value and change the way we, as runners and sports people, consume and give back to the environment and society. We aim to improve the transparency and cut through the BS that is created by brands and retailers for them to hide behind when they aren’t delivering on sustainable promises.

Run Legacy is not alone in wanting to change the industry we love, we will bring people that care together, to create a community and build momentum so collectively we have a voice of sustainability that bridges the many channels of the industry.

We are the partner of choice for brands with sustainable credentials and those that want their commitments told in a straightforward manner.

Our Sustainability Partners

We’ve partnered with Ecologi to help us, and our community make a positive and meaningful contribution to climate change. It’s important to us that we’re able to grow our business while being climate positive.

With Ecologi we’re doing that in two ways:

Firstly we contribute to the climate crisis by offsetting the carbon emissions of our team members, as well as planting trees in our company forest. Based on the current size of our company that works out at:

240 trees planted a year

18 tonnes of CO2 reduced each year

Secondly and in addition, we will plant trees through campaigns with brands, community and retailers.

By planting trees in our Run Legacy Forest, as a community we can visualise our contribution and see the real impact, as a community we are collectively making.

Together we can contribute and make the Run Legacy forest grow in front of our eyes!

Run Legacy has partnered with Compare Ethics to assist and guide us in our sustainability direction.

Ensuring we are communicating effectively without greenwashing and improving transparency.

We’re a proud member of 1% for the Planet.

It’s important to us to be part of a network of conscious businesses, organisations and individuals. It’s meaningful to us to be connected with an ecosystem of like minded people that want to leave a legacy that we can be proud of.

 By supporting 1% for the planet we contribute 1% of our total annual sales revenue as a business.

1% for the Planet

We only have 7 years to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN SDGs are the overarching framework at the heart of this agenda and are used by nations, industry and commerce to structure and guide their contribution.

We use two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as reference points that guide us in our business activity and communications.

SDG15 Life on Land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
